Age of Empires II : Age of Kings (Oldie)

My absolute favorite RTS game of all time, is ‘Age of Empires II’ and the addons to this game. I have no numbers of how many hours I’ve spent playing this game both as singleplayer and as one of the regular games on my clans lan parties, but lets just say that I’m a bit better than ‘average’ good at it 🙂

Age of Empires II: Age of Kings came out in 1999, was developed by Ensemble Studios and published by Microsoft as one of their titles on the Microsoft Games label.

A quick ‘whats this’ from Wikipedia gives a good overview:

Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings is set in the Middle Ages and contains thirteen playable civilizations. Players aim to gather resources, which they use to build towns, create armies, and defeat their enemies. There are five historically based campaigns, which constrict the player to specialized and story-backed conditions. There are three additional single-player game modes, and multiplayer is supported.

So, this is widely regarded as one of the big titles in the RTS genre of videogames, and its not without its reasons. The gameplay is one of the best i’ve ever played in this type of games. Its easy to keep track of whats what, and a new player to the game can easily get into it without to much problem, and at the same time it is so complex that experienced players can make some nifty combinations of buildings, constructions and troops to surprise even the most ‘played it for 20 years’ type of player 🙂

This game is a very good candidate to a LAN party, and me and my friends always play this game when we are gathered for a weekend of fun 🙂

The game is now free to play, and can be obtained at Softonic.com.
